Cosmic Education refers to the philosophy coined by Dr. Maria Montessori, which says that all things are interconnected in this universe and that each living thing has a specific role or Cosmic task to carry out. Simply speaking, at the Early Childhood level, we create community in our classrooms where each person feels safe, accepted, important, and included. As children feel this sense of belonging they can grow, learn from mistakes, and practice how to rely on others and be there for their classmates. As we encourage kindness and seeing life from different perspectives, children are building their Cosmic Education.
“We shall walk together on this path of life, for all things are a part of the universe, and are connected with each other to form one whole unity.” -Maria Montessori
Last night, our staff came together to participate in our own cosmic education by engaging in community service, reflecting on the importance, and how our broader community relates to our Woodland community.
We shopped for essential goods for the Abbie Shelter, the Sparrow’s Nest, and we purchased groceries for a local refugee family. Also, we prepared and packed sack lunches for the guests at the Warming Center. Find more information about these organizations below.
With the spur of The Great Kindness Challenge, January 27th-31st, 2025 maybe you would like to explore community service in your family! The following articles speak to the benefits for you, your children, and perhaps answer some questions that may pop up for you. These are articles our staff read and discussed also!
“We must look to the children as a vehicle for bringing change to humanity.” -Maria Montessori
